Yemeni rebels from the Ansar Allah (Houthis) movement said they attacked important targets in Saudi Arabia, including those in its capital Riyadh, the Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah TV reported.
According to a statement from a spokesman for the movement, the Houthis have launched precise strikes with rockets and drones on important targets in Riyadh, as well as in cities such as Abha and Khamis Mushait. According to him, the strikes began on Saturday evening and continued until Sunday morning.
The Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia has not yet commented on the reports.
In Yemen, active hostilities have continued since August 2014 between government forces on the side of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and the Houthi rebels who control northern Yemen. A coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been fighting on the side of Hadi since March 2015. The Houthis regularly bombard Yemen’s neighboring Saudi areas, calling it a response to the pro-Saudi coalition’s bombing of northern Yemen and the blockade of the country’s north by coalition and government forces.
