Milos Zeman stressed that a certificate from the Czech State Institute for the Control of Medicinal Products will be sufficient for the vaccine.
According to TASS, Czech President Milos Zeman told the local CNN Prima channel on Saturday that he had sent a letter to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin asking him to provide his country with the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine and was looking forward to early deliveries.
“If I am correctly informed, my request will be granted”, – Zeman said.
“Of course, we will need certification, and not necessarily by the European Medicines Agency. For me, a certificate from the Czech State Institute for the Control of Medicines would be quite enough”.
The host of the TV program said that Zeman turned to Putin about the vaccine by agreement with the Prime Minister of the republic, Andrei Babish. The head of government had previously repeatedly inquired about the possibility of obtaining Sputnik V.
The Czech Ministry of Health announced earlier on Saturday that the growing coronavirus pandemic in the country has already killed 20,194 people. At the end of the week, the republic took first place in the world in terms of the number of new infections per 1 million population. The total number of infected people in the Czech Republic, where 10.46 million people live, was 1,227,595.
