Britain supports US strikes against “militias attacking coalition bases”, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab wrote on Twitter.
Earlier on Friday, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the United States attacked the pro-Iranian militia in Syria in response to shelling of its forces and believes that this will contribute to de-escalation in the region.
“The UK supports targeted US strikes on militant groups attacking coalition bases in an attempt to destabilize the region. We recognize the threat posed by the militants and share the US commitment to work with partners to de-escalate the situation”, – Raab wrote, without mentioning the word “Syria”.
According to a Pentagon spokesman, the strikes destroyed a number of facilities at the checkpoint used by a number of Iranian-backed paramilitary groups, including Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhad.
