Any increase in NATO forces in Iraq can be carried out only at the request of the leadership of the Middle East country. This was stated by the commander of the NATO mission in Iraq, Danish General Per Olsen.
“The NATO mission is in Iraq at the request of the Iraqi authorities, and any expansion of its tasks in the country can be carried out only at the request of the Iraqi government”, – the military leader said.
At a meeting in Baghdad with Iraqi national security adviser Qasem al-Araji, Olsen noted that NATO forces present there “support the Iraqi army in its fight against terror”.
