Russia only supplies Iran with nuclear fuel for the Bushehr nuclear power plant, there are no other types of production interaction, Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“In order to ensure the safety of the operation of the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, the Russian side is supplying fresh nuclear fuel for it. There is no interaction with Iran in other areas related to nuclear fuel”, – the ambassador said when asked to comment on Tehran’s statements of readiness to become independent producer of nuclear fuel.
In early January, the official representative of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Behruz Kamalwandi, on the air of the IRINN TV channel, announced that the Islamic Republic is preparing to become a nuclear fuel producer, cooperating on this issue, including with Russia.
The first block of the nuclear power plant, completed with the participation of the Russian Federation, was connected to the national power system of Iran in September 2011. Russia supplies Iran with the nuclear fuel needed for the operation of the reactor of the first unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. The Russian Embassy in Iran on April 29, 2020 last reported on the delivery of a fresh consignment of fuel to Iran.
