New round of inter-Libyan talks will be held from February 1 to 5

A new round of inter-Libyan talks will be held in Geneva from February 1 to 5, the parties will discuss the creation of the presidential Council and the candidacy of the Prime Minister, the press service of the UN Geneva office said.

“The Libyan Political Dialogue Forum will meet in Switzerland next week, February 1-5, 2021, with the assistance of the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams, and thanks to the generous hospitality of the Swiss Federal Government”, – the statement said.

As noted, the Libyan parties will vote on the positions of the three members of the presidential Council and the candidacy of the prime minister, which is provided for by the “road map” adopted in Tunisia in mid-November last year. The participants of the meeting will draw up the final lists of candidates for members of the Presidential Council for each region, as well as for the post of Prime Minister.

“This new interim unified executive will primarily be designed to lead Libya to national elections scheduled for December 24, 2021, and to re-unite state institutions”, – the UN press service stressed.

The Libyan parties are expected to arrive in Geneva on Saturday, January 30.
