Foreign and International Cooperation Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the UAE and Russia share an all-encompassing strategic relationship and cooperate to create a secure, prosperous and modern region.
He stated this during a press conference, which was held jointly with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov during the official visit of Sheikh Abdullah to Russia.
“My friend Sergey Lavrov, I am grateful for meeting you and for the kind words addressed to my country. We in the UAE are proud of our comprehensive strategic relationship with the Russian Federation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we realized that in the coming years, our relationship with Russia will develop significantly”, – Sheikh Abdullah said.
He then expressed pride in the work of the respective teams and embassies of both countries in Moscow and Abu Dhabi during the COVID-19 crisis, including the phase III clinical trials of a Russian vaccine.
Answering several questions from Russian media representatives about maintaining security in the region of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Libya, the Palestinian issue and the crisis in the Persian Gulf, Sheikh Abdullah said:
“We welcome Russia’s efforts to defuse tensions in the region. Our goal is to modernize it. We can work together to create modern, developed, advanced and prosperous countries”.
