France has no intention of linking aid to Egypt to the human rights situation. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday following talks with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the Elysian Palace
“We will not do this. A policy of demanding dialogue is better than a boycott”, – said Macron, answering the question of whether France would make military and economic support to Egypt conditional on the human rights situation. Otherwise, Macron said, it would make Egypt ‘more vulnerable’.
Macron also said that the violence in response to the cartoons was unacceptable.
