State Department recalls half of diplomats from Iraq

Americans fear a possible retaliation timed to coincide with the upcoming anniversary of the death of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani.

As the Politico newspaper reported, in connection with the aggravation of relations between the United States and Iran, the United States is withdrawing half of its diplomats from Iraq.

“It is noted that dozens of employees in Baghdad and other Iraqi cities are leaving their diplomatic missions. So far, nothing is known about the timing of their return, “the message says”. At the same time, the US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tuller will not leave the embassy in the Iraqi capital”.

The sharp increase in tensions between Iran and the United States is associated, among other things, with the approaching anniversary of the death of one of Iran’s most powerful military leaders, General Qassem Soleimani, who fell victim to a US Air Force attack on January 3 this year.
