Demonstrations in many cities of the country were accompanied by riots
The number of policemen injured during Saturday’s demonstrations against the bill “On global security” in France, according to the final figures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was 98. The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic Gerald Darmanen said on Twitter on Sunday.
“The bottom line: 98 wounded among the police and gendarmes. I express my full support. The perpetrators of this violence must be held accountable”, – he wrote. Earlier it was reported about 62 police officers who received injuries of varying severity during the protests.
At the same time, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, two protesters appealed to the General Police Inspectorate with a complaint about police violence. It is also known that a Syrian freelance photographer Amir al-Halbi was wounded in the head during the protest. Christophe Deloire, Secretary General of Reporters Without Borders, condemned “unacceptable police violence” against the 24-year-old photojournalist.
During demonstrations in France, law enforcement officers detained more than 80 people involved in the riots.
