France is ready to help in finding a lasting solution to the conflict in Karabakh

The French President also expressed satisfaction with the end of hostilities and recalled his friendship with Armenia and its people.

French President Emmanuelle Macron had a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday. During the conversation, the French leader expressed his willingness to contribute to a long-term and fair resolution of the situation in the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic for all sides in the conflict zone, the Elysees Palace informed.

“The President expressed satisfaction with the end of hostilities, recalled his friendship with Armenia and its people, as well as [expressed] his readiness to find a just, long-term and acceptable political solution for all parties in Nagorno-Karabakh”, –  the presidential administration said in a statement.

On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. A Russian peacekeeping contingent is being brought into Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor to monitor the implementation of ceasefire agreements and combat operations. A total of 1,960 servicemen, 90 armored personnel carriers and 380 vehicles and special equipment are planned for deployment.

The situation around Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27 and active fighting began on the disputed territory. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The document, in particular, envisages deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the region.
