Hungary intends to protect traditional families from European values

The Hungarian Government has proposed amendments to the Constitution, which enshrines marriage as a union between a man and a woman and allows adoption of children only by married couples.

According to an amendment to the Constitution, “Hungary protects the institution of marriage as a union created by voluntary commitments between a man and a woman and the family as the basis for the survival of the nation”. The amendment also protects the right of children to an identity corresponding to their biological sex and to be raised in accordance with the Christian system of values.

“The basis of family ties is marriage and the relationship between parents and children. The mother is a woman and the father is a man. Education corresponds to values based on Hungary’s constitutional identity and Christian culture”, –  the amendment says.
