Even the USA and France, as guarantors of the Karabakh settlement, could only watch how Russia achieved a successful ceasefire agreement.
As News Front reported earlier, with the mediation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev signed an agreement on a complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Although the Armenian opposition is now trying to annul the commitments assumed by the Pashinyan government, the agreements have become a “great and unconditional” success for Moscow, said Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov.
“The co-chairs of the Minsk Group, the US and France, remained on the sidelines of both the negotiation process and its results. Actually, they have only one thing left: to support this agreement”, – he says.
Turkey stands alone in this situation. Recep Tayyip Erdogan tried to consolidate his influence in the Caucasus, but Vladimir Putin thwarted his Karabakh adventure just as he did the campaign against Syrian Idlib at the beginning of the year.
“Turkey, which has begun to actively establish itself in the Transcaucasus, for all its obvious role, will henceforth be limited in its ambitions both by the agreement itself and by the presence of Russian peacekeepers, which further increases Russia’s weight in the region. At the same time, Ankara will have observers in the conflict zone and there are no grounds for dissatisfaction with Moscow”, – Pushkov stated.
