Greek Defense Minister Nikos Panayotopoulos is confident that EU sanctions against Turkey are simply inevitable.
He said this during the video seminar of the German Marshall Fund:
“I understand the concerns of some European partners on sanctions against Turkey and Ankara’s reaction to them. Sooner or later, Europe will face the inevitability of imposing sanctions, because Turkey is unlikely to abandon its provocative behavior. I wonder where the limit is”.
In addition, he noted that the point here is not only Turkey’s actions in the Western Mediterranean, but also the behavior towards France.
Relations between the European Union and Turkey are escalating at an incredible rate. It is possible that EU sanctions will indeed follow. After all, this is Europe’s favorite lever of pressure.
