US may close embassy in Baghdad

According to The Wall Street Journal, the US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo previously notified the Iraqi President and Prime Minister of this.

According to TASS, the electronic version of the WSJ newspaper reported that the administration of the US President Donald Trump had warned the Iraqi authorities about their readiness to close their embassy in the country if they did not ensure an end to the missile attacks that could threaten the American side.

“The US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo previously notified this during telephone conversations between Iraqi President Barham Saleh and Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi. The Trump administration said it is already “taking preliminary steps” that could allow “the embassy to be closed within a few months while maintaining the consulate in Erbil”.

One of the Iraqi officials suggested that the talk could also be about the withdrawal of American forces from the country.
