Riyadh decided to strike a blow at the Turkish economy, which is already suffering from the global crisis.
According to the Greek City Times, the Saudi Arabian government is imposing an embargo on Turkish products. The ban will come into force on October 3, depriving Turkish entrepreneurs from supplying fruits, vegetables, other food products, furniture and equipment for hotels to the Arab kingdom.
The Turkish Exporters Association does not yet know the reasons for such a demarche. Ankara, in turn, is in no hurry to resolve the situation, although Saudi Arabia was the fifteenth largest market for Turkish exports.
“My contractors in Saudi Arabia are no longer making purchases due to a government warning. They are afraid”, – a spokesman for the association told Cumhuriyet.
“Trading will stop by the end of the month. We ship the last orders. It is not known what to do next”.
Tensions between Riyadh and Ankara emerged following a diplomatic scandal over Qatar in 2017. Then the kingdoms of the Persian Gulf accused Doha of supporting terrorists, breaking off relations with it. The situation worsened after the murder of journalist Jamal Hashkadzhi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The incident took place in the fall of 2018.
