A group of migrants rescued by a Danish tanker in the Mediterranean were allowed to disembark in Italy after more than 40 days at sea.
27 people, including one pregnant woman, flew out of Libya on 2 August.
The Danish tanker Maersk Etienne picked them up shortly after their ship began to sink.
But the ship was not allowed to dock in any country for over a month. Finally, the migrants landed in Sicily on Saturday evening.
On Friday, the group was transferred to a rescue boat operated by the non-governmental organization Mediterranea Saving Humans. They were taken to the port of Pozzallo.
“This will put an end to the longest and most shameful standoff in the history of European maritime shipping,” Mediterranea wrote on Twitter.
Recall that Greece is currently trying to cope with more than 12,000 migrants in Lesvos after the Moria refugee camp was destroyed by fire.
