Turkey supports NATO initiative and is ready to negotiate with Greece

Turkey supports NATO’s initiative to start talks between Ankara and Athens to resolve the situation in the Mediterranean Sea and is ready to start them without preconditions. This is stated in the widespread statement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

“The NATO Secretary General has taken an initiative to reduce tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and to prevent undesirable situations with maritime and air elements. This initiative, supported by our country, as the NATO Secretary General said today, is aimed at starting military-technical negotiations between the two countries within the framework of NATO. These negotiations concern not only the solution of bilateral issues between Turkey and Greece, but also the agreements that were discussed between the military of the two countries. We expect that Greece will support this initiative of the NATO Secretary General”, – the message says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic also notes that Ankara is ready to start negotiations with Athens “without preconditions”. At the same time, the ministry added that Turkey is ready for dialogue in order to “find permanent solutions on all issues within the framework of international law”.
