Members of the UN Security Council did not recognize the US demand to restore sanctions against Iran – the overwhelming majority of countries in the Security Council believe that Washington has no right to such a step.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last week conveyed to the Security Council chairman a complaint about Iran’s failure to comply with the provisions of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Program to launch the procedure for the restoration of anti-Iranian sanctions under Resolution 2231.
During the UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday, August 25, France, Germany, Great Britain, China, Russia, South Africa, among others, explicitly stated that they did not consider the United States to have the right to launch the sanctions restoration mechanism, since they left the JCPOA and were not parties to the deal.
