Local media reported at least 10 deaths and hundreds more injured.
The Lebanese news agency stated that the epicenter of a powerful explosion in the port of Beirut was a pyrotechnics warehouse, but later the head of the Lebanese general security service, General Abbas Ibrahim, denied the version about pyrotechnics, noting that other explosives that had been stored for a long time were detonated. Israel has denied involvement in the incident. The Lebanese President has called the High Council for National Defense for an emergency meeting.
