Russian diplomats travel to Ankara due to Turkish invasion of Libya

Talks will be held in the Turkish capital on the escalation of tensions in Libya.

This was announced on Tuesday, July 21, by the Turkish edition “Milliyet”.

According to media reports, a delegation of Russian diplomats is now awaiting in Ankara. The agenda will include issues related to Sirte. The port city is now under the control of the Libyan National Army of Marshal Khalifa Haftar, but the so-called Government of National Accord, with the support of Turkey, intends to seize Sirte.

In addition, the publication claims that negotiations between the foreign ministers of Russia and Turkey may soon take place. This will be possible if the preliminary negotiations are successful.

At the moment, there is no official information about the Russian-Turkish talks in Ankara.

The Libyan crisis began in 2011. Then, during an armed coup d’état, Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown, which entailed the creation of a dual power in the country. So, in Tripoli, with the support of the West, the so-called Government of National Accord was formed, which refused to recognize the Libyan parliament in the city of Tobruk, which nominated General Haftar to the post of commander-in-chief.
