The Turkish military presence in Syria should help strengthen democracy in the Arab republic.
This statement was made on Tuesday, July 21 by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to him, the Turkish armed contingent will not end the occupation of the Syrian regions until the Syrian people become free.
“We will remain there until the citizens of brotherly neighboring Syria receive freedom and peace. So-called elections are being held in Syria. Is it possible to conduct elections like this? Where are the countries that talk about democracy? ” Erdogan said.
As previously reported by News Front, the Turkish authorities at the beginning of the year provoked an escalation of tension in the Syrian province of Idlib, when they began to transfer troops there without the consent of official Damascus. Ankara set out to prevent the Syrian army from fighting terrorists and actually sided with the militants. Erdogan’s military adventure was not crowned with success, and he soon went to Moscow to negotiate with Vladimir Putin. The result of the meeting was the announcement of a ceasefire in Idlib.
