French President Emmanuel Macron appointed Jean Castex as a Prime Minister of the Fifth Republic. It is reported by RIA Novosti referring to the press service of the Champs Elysees.
“The President of the Republic appointed Jean Castex as prime minister and instructed him to form a government”, – the communiqué says.
Jean Castex served as mayor of the city of Prad in the department of the Eastern Pyrenees in southern France. In April, he was instructed to coordinate the process of the country’s exit from the regime of self-isolation.
Earlier on Friday, it was reported that current Prime Minister Edouard Philip wrote a letter of resignation for his office.
