The book of the ex-adviser to the President of the White House on national security, John Bolton, regarding the relations between the presidents of Turkey and the United States, is manipulative and misleading, said the head of the communications department of the administration of the Turkish leader Fahrettin Altun.
A book of Bolton’s memoirs was published on Tuesday, in which he describes his work in the White House in 2018-2019. According to Bolton in his book, the U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018 invited his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan to help with the investigation of the U.S. Justice Department against the Turkish state bank Halkbank, which was accused of violating anti-Iranian sanctions. In addition, according to Bolton, Trump, ignoring the “turmoil in Congress”, refused to impose sanctions against Turkey for its purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems.
“The recent publication of a book authored by a former senior US official includes misleading, one-sided, and manipulative views about our President Erdogan’s conversations with the US President Trump. We find it reprehensible that former senior officials are trying to use serious diplomatic negotiations for domestic purposes and efforts to resolve unresolved issues between allies like the US and Turkey”, – Altun wrote on Twitter.
He expressed confidence that Turkish-American relations would overcome this.
“President Erdogan will continue his frank, honest and direct conversations with President Trump”, – Altun added.
