The United States is considering consolidating its permanent military presence in Libya, a diplomatic source told the reporters.
“Finally, they drew attention to the statement made by the GNA Interior Minister Fathi Bashagi in February this year that if Washington appeals for permission to build an American military base in Tripoli on the territory controlled by the West Libyan authorities, they will not object. It is unlikely that such a public invitation of Americans to Libya could be made without preliminary discussion of this issue between the government of Fayez Sarraj and representatives of the Pentagon”, – the source said
“We can assume that this is a probe of international reaction to the US plans to consolidate its permanent military presence in Libya”, – he added.
