Clashes between local residents, mostly from North Africa, and groups of Chechens began, according to preliminary data, after drug dealers beat up a 16-year-old Chechen in the Grecil area. In response, some residents of Grecil began to patrol the streets and send threats to Chechens in social networks. The groups then engaged in open clashes for three days in the evenings, destroying security cameras, burning cars and garbage cans.
According to police sources, more than 10 people were injured in the riots.
Until Monday evening, when units of the special counter-terrorist police unit and the special police force arrived in the city, not a single person was detained. However, after another wave of riots on June 15, police detained four people. An investigation is under way to identify those involved in the pogroms.
