Iran told the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that it would send black boxes to France for decryption from the Ukrainian Boeing plane shot down near Tehran, with a condition of a consent of other countries involved in the investigation.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to sources familiar with the situation.
Earlier, ISNA reported that Iran decided not to send black boxes to Ukraine from the Ukrainian plane shot down near Tehran at the beginning of the year, but to transfer them to another country. The agency noted that France could be this country.
“Iran said that they will soon hand them over (black boxes – ed.) to Paris in case of a consent of the states participating in the investigation”, – one of the agency’s sources said.
The Boeing 737-800 Ukraine International Airlines flying to Kiev crashed shortly after leaving Tehran Airport on January 8 early in the morning. 176 people died: citizens of Iran, Ukraine, Canada, Britain, Germany, Sweden and Afghanistan.
The Iranian military said on January 11 that the Ukrainian Boeing was shot down by accident, the human factor was to blame: the plane flew near the Iranian military facility and was mistaken for an “enemy target”, namely for a cruise missile, they specified. At the same time, Iran noted that they expected an attack from the United States, and therefore the country’s air defense systems were put on full alert.
