Iranian Foreign Minister calls ending WHO funding disgrace for US

The termination of the US funding for the World Health Organization during the coronavirus pandemic is shameful for the United States, as well as exerting maximum pressure on Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

On Tuesday, the US President Donald Trump said that Washington was stopping funding for WHO, which, according to him, did not provide information about the coronavirus in a timely manner, and also did not bring the truth to the world community.

“Like maximum pressure against Iran, the shameful cessation of WHO funding during the pandemic will forever be covered in shame”, – the Iranian Foreign Minister wrote on his Twitter account.

Zarif added that now the whole world is beginning to understand what Iran had to endure, including the US threats and “vain chatter”, which, according to him, lead to deaths.

The WHO program budget is funded through a combination of both assessed and voluntary contributions. Mandatory contributions are made by countries in order to have membership in the Organization. The amount of the contribution of each Member State is calculated in accordance with the welfare of the country and its population.
