Turkish troops take revenge on the Syrian army for the defeat of fighters with a missile strike

The base of the Syrian Arab army in the Idlib de-escalation zone was shelled after soldiers repelled an attack by militants.

The incident occurred west of Aleppo, where militants from pro-Turkish armed forces attempted to storm the base of the 46th SAA regiment. This military facility is notable for the fact that it is located near the city of El Atarib – a stronghold of terrorists on the border of the provinces of Aleppo and Idlib. In this regard, he is subjected to regular attacks by both militants and the Turkish Armed Forces.

SAA units repelled another outbreak of jihadists. When the militants attempted to break into the base, they opened fire on them with heavy machine guns and automatic weapons. The Turkish army has already responded to this by shelling the territory of the base with the use of multiple launch rocket systems. According to the Syrian command, the military did not suffer as a result of the shelling.

As News Front previously reported, in February, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided on a risky military adventure in Syrian Idlib. By sending troops in support of illegal armed groups, he tried to force the Syrian army to retreat. However, the operation got bogged down, NATO refused to provide support, and Russia made it clear that it would continue to contribute to the liberation of Syria.

As a result, Erdogan tempered his ambitions and went on March 5 to negotiate with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Then the parties came to an agreement to resolve the situation, and in Idlib a silence regime was introduced. Nevertheless, even after that, Turkey did not stop building up forces on Syrian territory, although now the coronavirus pandemic has made adjustments to Ankara’s plans.
