The actions of the US military may cause the situation in the Middle East to get out of control.
The Prime Minister of Iraq, Adel Abdel Mahdi, wrote about this in his letter to the head of the Pentagon, Mark Esper. On Wednesday, April 1, the text of the letter appeared on the net.
The head of the Iraqi government called on the US Secretary of Defense to abandon the idea of deploying Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems in Iraq. He doubted that the actions of the Pentagon are defensive in nature and did not exclude a response from Iran.
“The Iranian leadership is told that the Patriot systems that the United States intends to deploy in the country are defensive, but this step will still affect the situation in the region. If it turns out that the Patriot systems are deployed in Iraq for offensive purposes, then Iran and Shiite gangs will deploy their own missile systems, ”Mahdi wrote in a letter dated February 2.
The calls of the Iraqi prime minister did not stop the United States. As News Front previously reported, the American armed forces are already deploying Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems at Ain al-Assad and Harir bases. At the same time, the United States is ready to strike even against the forces of the Iranian Corps of the guardians of the Islamic revolution, although there were certain disagreements between the Pentagon and the State Department over such a provocative step.
The US military presence has recently turned into an escalation of tension for Iraq. At the end of last year, the US military base near Iraqi Kirkuk was shelled, which led to the death of an American citizen. In response, the American armed forces launched a punitive action by hitting the objects of the local Shiite formation. US actions have led to massive protests. It even reached the assault on the American embassy in Baghdad.
The situation worsened after the United States launched an air strike in Iraq, which killed Iranian General Kassem Suleimani. Then even the Iraqi authorities began to demand the withdrawal of Americans from the country. At the same time, shelling of US military facilities did not stop.
