Syrian authorities are stepping up their efforts to fight against coronavirus infection: only in recent days a curfew has been introduced in the country, restrictions on movement between the provinces, prolonged quarantine in schools and universities, and increased street disinfection has been practiced.
Almost all establishments are closed, except for grocery stores, but they also operate in a strictly limited time – until the beginning of the curfew.
The Syrians are sympathetic to these measures and hope that thanks to strict restrictions they will be able to overcome the epidemic as soon as possible and return to normal life.
“Stay at home for your sake and your children’s one. Keep at least 1 meter from each other to protect yourself from coronavirus”, – banners with such slogans have appeared on the streets of Syria in recent days.
One of the most radical measures in the fight against coronavirus over the past week has been the introduction of curfews in Syria. It is valid from March 25 from 18:00 to 6:00 local time, exactly half the day. After 6 pm, only policemen remain on the streets.
The streets begin to empty an hour before the curfew begins, even grocery stores and pharmacies are closing.
“We are closing early”, – the supermarket employee answers the question why the store is closed already at 16:30 local time, an hour and a half before the restrictions begin. “The curfew is from 6 pm, but we still need to get home”.
