EU calls for a truce in Syria to facilitate the fight against coronavirus

The European Union has called for a ceasefire in Idlib to extend throughout Syria to facilitate the fight against coronavirus.

“The ceasefire in Idlib remains fragile. It is necessary to consolidate it and extend it to all of Syria”, – the EU Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Brussels noted that the cessation of hostilities is important in itself, but it is also “a prerequisite for containing the spread of coronavirus”.

In Syria, five cases of coronavirus infection have been recorded. To prevent the spread of the virus, authorities closed external borders, canceled flights and limited the movement of citizens within the country.
