No fear of coronavirus: Gilet Jaunes traditionally strike in France

The yellow vests movement – named after the yellow high visibility vests worn by the demonstrators – is an unstructured and sporadic protest movement which appeared in France in October 2018. This spontaneous social movement finds its origin in the dissemination – mainly on social media – calls to protest against the increase in the price of motor fuels resulting from the increase in the internal consumption tax on energy products (TICPE). The demonstrations take place mainly on Saturdays.
