Turkey stated that it did not observe violations in Syrian Idlib after the entry into force of a ceasefire agreement signed in Moscow. This was stated by Minister of Defense of the country Hulusi Akar, his words are quoted by Anadolu agency.
“From the moment the ceasefire agreement in Idlib entered into force, there have been no cases of violation of it. We are closely monitoring the situation and in case of attacks on our observation posts will immediately respond”, – Akar said.
During the March 5 talks, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed their commitment to the “Astana format” and announced the introduction of a ceasefire from midnight on Friday. Moreover, the leaders agreed to jointly patrol the important M4 highway, which is currently controlled by militants.
The Turkish Defense Minister also announced the arrival of the Russian delegation in Ankara next week to discuss joint patrols in Idlib.
“Within the framework of the agreement reached in Moscow, starting on March 15, we will begin joint patrolling in Idlib. We started discussing the conditions for creating a security corridor along the M4 highway. In this connection, the Russian delegation will come to Ankara next week”, – said the head of the Ministry of Defense, whose words were quoted by NTV.
