Turkish authorities have decided to deploy a thousand police special forces on the border with Greece to prevent attempts to return migrants, Turkish Interior Minister Suleiman Soilu said.
Earlier, against the background of the situation in Syrian Idlib, Turkey opened the border with the EU.
“They (the Greek authorities – ed.) injured 164 people. They tried to push 4.9 thousand people back to us. We are sending 1,000 special forces of the police to the border to prevent return”, – the Turkish Interior Minister told reporters in the province of Edirne on the border with Greece (quoted by Reuters).
It was previously reported that Austria will send the border police to restrain the flow of migrants to Greece.
“We must be clearly focused on stopping people on the external border”, – said Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer.
Turkey opened the border with the EU for refugees due to the situation in Syrian Idlib. On February 27, more than 30 Turkish soldiers died there due to the shelling of Syrian government forces.
