Libyan delegation notes “Turkey’s dangerous intervention, which sent thousands of mercenaries to Libya”.
A memorandum on the resumption of the work of diplomatic missions in Damascus and Benghazi was signed on March 1 between Syria and the interim government of Libya. This was reported by SANA.
It is reported that both sides agreed “on coordinating foreign policy activities and common steps to repel Turkish intervention and aggression against the Syrian and Libyan peoples”.
“Syria and Libya face similar challenges and external pressures that threaten their sovereignty and Arab national security”, – said Syrian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Valid Muallem after signing the memorandum. According to him, in Damascus they attach “very great importance to cooperation with the Libyan brothers”.
Muallem had previously held talks in Damascus with a delegation from the Libyan interim government, which included Deputy Prime Minister Abdel Rahman al-Ahirish and Foreign Minister and International Cooperation Abdel Hadi al-Houweij.
According to SANA, the Libyan delegation during the talks indicated “the dangerous intervention of Turkey, which sent thousands of mercenaries to Libya”.
Earlier, Al-Hadath TV channel reported that since the end of December last year, Turkey allegedly sent at least 6,000 Syrian opposition fighters to Libya to support the armed police fighting on the side of the Government of National Accord Faiz Sarraj. This happened after a memorandum of cooperation in the military field was signed between Ankara and the GNA on November 28, 2019.
