Erdogan, Putin, Merkel and Macron will meet on Syria

The crisis in Idlib will be discussed.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that a quadripartite summit will be held in Istanbul on March 5 to resolve the conflict in the Syrian province of Idlib. Presidents of Russia and France Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron will take part in it, as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel, CNN Turk writes on February 22.

Merkel and Macron invited Putin and Erdogan to discuss with the four people the Idlib crisis during a telephone conversation on February 20. Earlier, the leaders of the four countries had already held a summit on Syria in October 2018.

Lately Putin and Erdogan over the telephone discussed the situation in Idlib. According to the press service of the Turkish leader, he reminded his Russian counterpart to overcome the humanitarian crisis in the country.

The situation in the Syrian province of Idlib escalated in early February, after the Russian and Turkish military made another attempt to introduce a regime of silence, but the terrorists only intensified their attacks.

On the morning of February 11, the Syrian opposition, with the support of Turkey, launched an attack on troops in Idlib. The troops of the Syrian army with the support of Russia repelled this attack.
