The agreement between Russia and Turkey on the Syrian province of Idlib does not imply a refusal to fight the militants, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
The Russian Foreign Minister made such a statement, speaking at the Munich Security Conference.
“These agreements in no way imply a refusal to uncompromisingly fight terrorist groups”, – Lavrov said, stressing that the agreements provide for a ceasefire and the creation of a demilitarized zone.
He noted that between Russia and Turkey, contacts are continuing at the level of experts, diplomats, military and security services in order to find ways to implement the agreements on Idlib.
“Regular contacts will take place next week”, – the Russian Minister added.
The conference in Munich takes place from February 14 to 16. It is attended by over 800 delegates, including about 150 heads of state, prime ministers and members of governments. Lavrov at the event leads the Russian delegation.
