The blame for the defeat of the militants was laid on Russia. The Syrian Arab army has recently liberated a significant number of territories in the Idlib de-escalation zone, which has caused discontent of the United States.
This statement was made by the US Special Representative for Syria James Jeffrey.
According to him, the aggravation of the situation in Idlib, which could ensure the defeat of militants in the last major stronghold of terrorists in the country, is of concern to Washington. He emphasized that “this must be put to an end”.
It is noteworthy that the responsibility for the successes of the Syrian government forces of the USA was assigned to Russia and demanded that it “change its policy” in the Middle East republic.
“This conflict is dangerous”, – the official said during a briefing at the US State Department. “Russia needs to change its policy”.
Moreover, Jeffrey accused Moscow of allegedly violating international agreements to prevent the escalation of tension in northeastern Syria.
The situation in Idlib
According to the latest information, last night, units of the Syrian Arab army entered a battle in Sarakib, which they have lately been surrounding. The city was a stronghold of the militants of the Khayyat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group*. Their desperate attempts to maintain their positions were unsuccessful. As a result, the jihadists surrendered Sarakib and more than a dozen settlements east of the city.
The strategic importance of Sarakib is due to the fact that it is located at the intersection of the Latakia-Aleppo and Damascus-Aleppo motorways. Thus, taking control of Sarakib, government forces gain a significant advantage in the region and will be able to accelerate the defeat of terrorist groups.
The Idlib de-escalation zone remains the last major stronghold of terrorist groups in Syria. Khayyat Tahrir al-Sham is the largest of them. The situation in Idlib is explained by the fact that it was here in 2017 that the militants of their Eastern Guta and the southern regions of the Arab Republic began to be taken out.
