The United States, France and the United Kingdom requested a briefing by the UN Security Council on the situation in northwestern Syria with the participation of UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen and representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), a UN Security Council source told Interfax.
According to preliminary information, the meeting may take place on Thursday.
In early January, a ceasefire regime entered into force in Idlib, in northwestern Syria. However, Ankara later accused Damascus of violating it. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu then said that if the attacks on Idlib did not stop, millions of refugees from Idlib would be counted.
Idlib is the last Syrian province in whose territory there are relatively numerous groups of extremists and armed opposition supporters.
