Foreign Ministry appraised the reaction of Arab countries to “the deal of a century”

Moscow is following the reaction of Arab countries to “the deal of a century” proposed by the US President Donald Trump, while this reaction is mostly negative, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

“At the same time, we carefully monitor the reaction of the Arab capitals to the American initiative. So far, the incoming assessments are negatively skeptical for the most part”, – Zakharova said at a briefing.

The US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday the results of the development of “the deal of a century” – a draft agreement between Israel and Palestine, which should put an end to the conflict in the region. The plan provides for the creation of the state of Palestine and its demilitarization, while Israel will retain control of the east of the Jordan River, and Jerusalem will remain its indivisible capital. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the deal also includes recognition of the city of Abu Dis on the eastern outskirts of Jerusalem as the “fence” of the city. At the same time, the plan offers an investment of $ 50 billion for a new Palestinian state. It is envisaged that negotiations on a final agreement should take place within four years.

The head of the PNA, Mahmoud Abbas, rejected the new plan, saying that the Palestinians insisted on recognizing their state within 1967 with its capital in Jerusalem.

The Council of the League of Arab States (LAS) at the level of foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting on Saturday to discuss the “deal of the century.” At the same time, the organization’s secretary general, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has already stated that the first acquaintance with the US plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict indicates a violation of the rights of Palestinians to their lands.
