Russia calls on US and Iran to exercise restraint, Lavrov said

Russia calls on the US and Iran to exercise restraint and resolve all issues through dialogue, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.

“We are against escalation, no matter from which side it is observed, no matter where it comes from… We urge both the United States and Iran to exercise restraint and solve all problems through dialogue”, – Lavrov said after talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Dinesh Gunavarden.

He noted that the United States had previously stated its readiness for negotiations with Tehran.

“At the same time, they add “without preconditions”. But in the process of putting forward these proposals to begin such a dialogue, they stifle – as they call them – suffocating sanctions against Iran. That is, it turns out that the United States, inviting Iran to the dialogue without preconditions, puts forward a prerequisite in the form of sanction pressure”, – the Russian Foreign Minister noted.
