Berlin welcomes the ceasefire agreement in Libya, which will be signed in Moscow, spokesman for the German government Steffen Seibert said at a briefing on Monday.
“The German government welcomes this ceasefire agreement, which comes into force, which is associated with the efforts of the Russian and Turkish presidents. If this is confirmed, it will become the basis on which the conference will be possible (in Berlin on Libya)”, – Seibert said.
He added that the official date will be announced later.
Earlier in January, the leaders of Russia and Turkey came up with an initiative to end hostilities in Libya from 00:00 on January 12, 2020.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that representatives of the Libyan parties arrived in Moscow and will soon join the Russian-Turkish talks. In accordance with the agreements reached in Istanbul between the presidents of Russia and Turkey, a Russian-Turkish meeting at the level of the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Defense Ministry on the Libyan settlement started in the morning at the Foreign Ministry Reception House.
