The Presidents of France and Russia, Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin, discussed the situation with the Iranian nuclear deal, the Syrian and Ukrainian crises over the telephone, according to a statement issued on Monday in the Champs Elysees.
The conversation between the two leaders took place on Sunday, January 12.
“In Iran, the two Presidents reaffirmed their common will to maintain the JCPOA and, in this regard, called on Iran to quickly return to full compliance with its nuclear obligations”, – the communiqué says.
Speaking about the situation in Syria, Macron “again expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in Idlib and stressed the importance of maintaining for the UN the possibility of an effective response to the humanitarian needs of the population throughout Syrian territory”.
The presidents of the two countries also discussed the implementation of the agreements reached during the summit in the “Norman” format, which was held in December in Paris.
“The President of the (French) Republic recalled the priority of observing the ceasefire on the contact line with the prospect of achieving the next stages of the conflict settlement”, – the Champs Elysees noted.
