On the night of January 7 to 8, Iran retaliated to the USA by firing more than 10 ballistic missiles at the American military bases located in al-Asad and Erbil in Western Iraq.
The reason for the attack was the killing of the Commander of the elite unit of the Islamic revolutionary guard Corps Qasem Soleimani, which occurred on January 3 following the orders of the US President Donald Trump.
Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei said that “Iran had slapped the United States in the face that night”, and also noted that if Washington takes any action in response to the missile attacks on American military bases, “it will face back even more painful and destructive strikes”.
Trump, in turn, promised to make a statement on the results of the Iranian missile attack on Wednesday morning (19.00 Moscow time).
The Italian political expert Tiberio Graziani commented on current events in an interview with News Front correspondents.
When asked whether it was possible to claim that the attack on General Qasem Soleimani was a pre-election PR stunt committed by Donald Trump, the political expert replied as follows:
“Although it is possible, given President Trump’s ruthlessness, I don’t think there is a direct relationship between the assassination of General Soleimani and the election campaign for the upcoming US presidential elections. Certainly the criminal action taken by the Trump Administration against the Iranian general will affect the American anti-Iranian electorate. Trump, like the other presidents who preceded him, with this gesture, wanted to reiterate the US strategy aimed at maintaining its hegemony in the area. With this act, the US once again demonstrates that it is practicing the so-called geopolitics of chaos”.
“I am convinced that the patience and strategic vision of Tehran, Moscow and Beijing will balance the irresponsibility of the Trump administration”, – Graziani said, commenting on the forecasts of further development of events.
