Turkish President announces military dispatch to Libya

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on CNN Turk reported that the Turkish military has advanced to Libya. The military, he said, will coordinate the government of national consensus.

“Our goal is to support a legitimate government”, – Erdogan said.

Media previously reported that the Government of National Accord (PNC) of Libya has formally requested military assistance from Ankara. This happened against the backdrop of the advance of the Libyan National Army in Tripoli, led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

It is, according to media reports, about “air, land and sea” military support to repel the offensive. The sending of the military to Libya was approved by the Turkish parliament.

In 2011, Libya, after the overthrow and assassination of the country’s leader Muammar Gaddafi, virtually ceased to function as a single state.

Dual power reigns in the country today. The Parliament elected by the people sits in the east, and in the west, in the capital Tripoli, the Government of National Accord, led by Fayez Sarraj, is formed, formed with the support of the UN and the EU. The authorities of the eastern part of the country operate independently of Tripoli and cooperate with the Libyan National Army.

Russia has repeatedly advocated the cessation of hostilities and the resumption of dialogue with a view to resolving the Libyan crisis.
