The Iraqi parliament voted for the withdrawal of foreign troops and the termination of the agreement with the coalition to combat the Islamic State *, RIA Novosti reported with reference to Al-Arabia TV channel.
The proposal was made by the Acting Prime Minister of Iraq, Adele Abdel Mahdi. In his opinion, the cessation of the presence of foreign troops in Iraq is “the best solution, despite internal and external difficulties”.
Before that, the US coalition suspended military training in Iraq. At the same time, the command emphasized that they remain partners in the fight against ISIS*.
On January 2, the Pentagon confirmed that the United States conducted another air attack in the vicinity of the Iraqi capital, the victim of which was one of Iran’s most influential military leaders, Kassem Suleimani, the commander of the Al-Quds special forces unit of the IRGC.
Along with him, ten more people were killed, including four special forces officers, as well as several senior officials of the Shiite militia of Iraq. The attack was ordered by US President Donald Trump, who called Suleimani a “terrorist leader”.
After the assassination of the general, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif predicted “the end of the sinister US presence in West Asia”.
Subsequently, official Tehran several times promised to take revenge on Washington for the murder of a senior military leader. In response, Trump threatened to carry out a “quick and powerful blow” at 52 different sites in the Islamic Republic in the event of an escalation of the situation or a threat to security for American citizens.
The Minister of Information and Communication Technology of the Islamic Republic, Javad Azari Jahromi, commenting on Trump’s threats, called him “a terrorist in a suit” and compared him to Hitler, Genghis Khan and the Islamic State terrorist organization banned in Russia.
