On January 27, 2017, during a visit to Washington, former British Prime Minister Theresa May asked Trump a question about whether he had time to speak with Vladimir Putin from the beginning of his presidential term.
The head of the US administration replied in the negative. After that, Flynn turned to him, who indicated that he was organizing a conversation between the two leaders.
“President Putin called a few days ago, but we still haven’t had the opportunity to add it to your schedule,” wrote Peter Bergen, an American journalist and CNN television analyst in his new book, Trump and His Generals: The Price of Chaos.
“Are you joking? Vladimir Putin tried to call me, but you did not let him contact? What were you thinking? ”Trump reacted to this. In response, Flynn said that the US president receives a lot of calls every day, and administration officials are “trying to organize” his contacts.
Subsequently, Bergen notes, Trump criticized both Flynn himself and other “senior administration officials,” saying he was not allowed to contact “the only person on Earth who can destroy us.”
“What the hell is this? How is it possible that Putin calls me, but you do not connect us? I don’t know what you’re doing at all, ”Bergen quotes Trump’s words he said at a private meeting.
