Field Marshal of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalifa Haftar announced a general mobilization in order to counter aggression from the outside, Al-Arabiya TV channel reported. He called on the Libyans to “unite and take up arms” in response to Ankara’s intention to send troops to Tripoli.
On the eve of the same channel, citing sources, it said that Turkey would send the military to Libya in the next two days. The day before, the country’s parliament approved the request of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to send military assistance to the Government of National Accord (PNS) of Libya.
Since 2011, a civil war has been ongoing in Libya, the army’s main opponent remains Field Marshal Khalif Haftar’s army, which is now attacking Tripoli.
Recall that in late December, the Libyan PNS officially requested Turkey for military assistance. It was reported that it was about “air, land and sea” military support to repel the offensive on Tripoli by the forces of Khalifa Haftar. To send the Turkish army to the region, a decision of the country’s parliament was necessary. Haftar’s opposing PNS army called on the international community to prevent Ankara from sending troops to Libya. The US warned Turkey of the dangers of military intervention in the region.
