The Hamas Palestinian movement has accused Palestinian intelligence of involvement in the assassination of Islamic Jihad commander Bahi Abu al-Ata, a Palestinian Interior Ministry press release said in the Gaza Strip.
In mid-November, it was reported that the commander of the Islamic Jihad, Baha Abu al-Ata, died as a result of an Israeli military strike on his home.
According to the statement, during the investigation into the circumstances of the death of the commander, he managed to “arrest a group of people who collected information about Abu al-Ata, who monitored his movements for several months until the last hour before his assassination by the Israeli (military – ed.).”
It is also noted that those arrested “are members of the Palestinian Authority’s Main Intelligence Service in Ramallah, and have been assigned official surveillance of Abu al-Ata.” It is also reported that the information was transmitted to Israeli intelligence.
The Palestinian Fatah movement called this statement false and baseless.
One of the largest exacerbations in recent months on the borders of the Palestinian enclave occurred in mid-November after the Israeli Air Force commander of the Islamic Jihad in Gaza, Bahi Abu al-Ata, was liquidated. Israel holds it responsible for hundreds of terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and the military.
